BAGER has eliciting and practicing an innovative digital system of information platform as part of contributing to the prevention of Coronavirus by the African Government entitled “Enhancing Data Management on COVID-19 through a Web based Mobile Devices Health Messaging System under the call for proposal both by SmartAfrica and GIZ together with USA based company Spin-strategy- Digital Solutions for Government to Tackle the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19)Pandemic in Africa” through four ways of applying the system-Government, developer, individual user and Health worker. Government-designated health officer – view submitted data, check community status, generate reports wherein automated data reports to support day to day operations, data delivery and data quality and community reporting, and location/facility grouping support to provide data reports based on the status on infectious physical location, administrative division or a specific facility. Developer upload guidance’s including information on physical distancing, self-target for isolation, self-monitoring. Individual user- added personal details with a view to assess and guidance complaint to the World Health Organization (WHO), National guidelines, finding testing sites, nearby areas should be assessed and recorded using GIS approach invite others to install the application. Health workers track surveyed collect data form terminals at public facilities (e.g. testing terminals at border controls, testing terminals by medial authorities, submit the collected data to Government official in order to easily detect nearby testing sites, nearby facilities should be assessed and recorded in the system using a GIS

Region, Ethiopia” (February-March 2021)
Mieso is a woreda in the West Hararge Zone of Oromia Region of Ethiopia. The woreda is a chronically food insecure area, coupled by a conflict prone area, wherein the most recent conflict broke out in September 2017 and resulted to affect more than 217,000 people and lost everything within a short period of time. The people have been vulnerable to economic shocks as a result of denudated livelihood base, where BAGR has contracted by Islamic Relief World Wide to identify feasible agriculture and non-agriculture options, along with marketing dynamics and enabling environments that would help the displaced people to improve their economic situation, and build their economic security and resilience mainly women and girls.

A context study on the Livestock development activities of the Somali and Oromiya regional states has highlighted the current states of the livestock situation in the three woerdas of the Somali and Oromiya regional sates- Gorboqoqsa, Gurhuadamole and Dawaketche. BAGER conducted the study and collect and analyse key information necessary for designing intervention in livestock development- livestock diseases and health, mainly Camel Miscarriage, Livestock Marketing, and Value chain development. BAGER briefed the findings with senior management of the Client and recognised the creation of link among the different supporting services for livestock development. (October and November 2018)


In close collaboration between World Resource Institute (WRI-USA) and The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission (EFCC-Ethiopia) has initiated a Landscape Action Plan (LAP) development with the aim to restore the forest and land degradation in Sodo Guragie Woreda-SNNPR. BAGER has commissioned by WRI to develop a landscape action plan for the woreda with th

 

e aim to establish a shared vision for landscape restoration among local stakeholders, clarify roles and responsibilities, and strengthen local ownership of Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) activities within which it initiated to lead a collaborative process to develop joint landscape action plans for FLR to strengthen woreda, kebele, and landscape level platforms for FLR coordination. BAGER has already revised various studies, restoration diagnostic maps and proposed development zone for Tree based landscape restoration potential and priority maps with a detail involvement in conducting ground-truthing the map developed assessing tree cover and distribution for tracking progress towards target and informing adaptive management for Sodo Guragie
(SNNPR region). (December 2020-April 2021)


Kyeema Foundation implemented a project entitled ‘Upscaling Newcastle disease vaccination service for the village poultry sector in selected rural areas in Sidama and SNNP Regions of Ethiopia’ in partnership with CARE and SNV (20-21), as part of the USAID Feed the Future Livelihoods for Resilience Activity. The project aims to achieve inclusive market systems through equipping and supporting community poultry vaccinators, who will work with Vet Vendors to vaccinate chickens in their communities, with a focus on Newcastle disease (ND) vaccination. The project was planned to test a business model for increasing access the community with animal health services delivery through a) increased sale of efficacious Newcastle disease vaccine by veterinary vendors; b) increased community vaccinator income per vaccination campaign; c) increased number of chickens vaccinated in each campaign; and d) Increased number of households vaccinating their chickens against Newcastle disease. The end line assessment was conducted in December 2021 to collect comparative data to assess the impact of business model about the clear beneficial impact that vaccinating against Newcastle disease (ND) can have on reducing the frequency and severity of ND outbreaks through supporting an inclusive vaccination model against Newcastle disease in the three targeted woredas of Sidama and SNNPR with a focus on best practices and lessons learned to guide future interventions in Ethiopia.

A four years program has been implemented in three regional states (Amhara, Oromia, and Somali), ILRI/EVA The main objective of the HEARD program is to strengthen the quality and delivery of public and private veterinary services through the creation of an enabling and rationalizing environment. Various activities have been implemented for the last three years in regard to the provision of the necessary resources to the National PPR disease control program, the provision of veterinary immunizations for the prevention and control of priority zoonotic diseases, the training of various animal Health experts, and the prevention of PPE for COVID-19, development of various policy documents like Veterinary rationalization road map, PPP guideline, CPD framework and modules, procurement and distribution of Laboratory, and animal health equipment’s, Vehicles, Motorbikes are some of the main activities that the program has done in the last working period. BAGER assigned a senior specialist to guide an internal review workshop for the five projects both at the regional and federal levels, along with facilitating an extensive discussion held with the participants on the performance and the gaps. Solutions are set to solve problems that have been encountered during the program implementation and the required time for finalizing project activities in the time remaining to the project so as to support and make the livestock sector successful in the country.

Strengthening of the food systems for sustainable and inclusive food and nutrition security in the highland of Amhara, Ethiopia (January to April 2023).

The Project ETH1211 SEWOH:-Strengthening rural systems for sustainable food and nutrition security in the highlands of Amhara region is a 54 months project planned for implementation from November 01,0222 to April 2027 in four woredas of the South Gonder – namely Farta, Guna-Bagemider, Estie and fogera. The project is implemented by Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA and WHH (Welthungerhilfe) using a total budget of 1,515,236 EURO funded from the BMZ for 54 months. The overall goal of the project aims to improve the food and nutrition security of 2785 households; a total of 14,972 direct beneficiaries and 131, 619 indirect beneficiaries living in 15 targeted kebeles that accounts 15% of the total population of the four-project targeted woredas through improving the food systems are sustainably strengthened and best practice models are demonstrated. The project follows the LANN+ (Linking Agriculture, Natural Resources, Nutrition and WASH) approach with the intention to improve diversified food production and productivity, access to WASH, mobilize savings by organizing household members into village savings and credit associations, increase access to alternative sources of income through the participation of women and youth in various income-generating activities, and increase the knowledge and practice of pregnant and lactating women about nutrition.

Output 1.1. Local capacities in food system and the implementation of systemic approaches are strengthened.

Output 1.2. Access to financial services and agricultural inputs is sustainably improved.

Output 1.3 Access to healthy and diverse food is sustainably improved in the 15 target kebeles

Output 1.4 Advocacy on inclusive and sustainable food systems is established at zonal and regional level.

The project “Towards Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security in the Highlands of Amhara, Ethiopia was implemented by ORDA with the support of German Agro Action (WHH) and GIZ over the years 2019 through 2022 in four woredas of South Gonder (Feraa, Guna Begemidr, Estie and Fogera) targeting of 14,538 households with the aim to contribute to the sustainable reduction of hunger and malnutrition and thereby ensuring to improve food and nutrition security in the project targeted area.

 

The evaluation identified key lesson learned through the implementation of the project, and that should form a solid platform contributes to the project objectives.

The project intervention logics were complied with the National Food and Nutrition Policy of Ethiopia (NFNP) (2019–2029) and prioritized activities that could address malnutrition problem through ensuring the availability, accessibility, and utilization of diversified, safe, and nutritious foods in a sustainable way. The project targeted approach was found to be generic in terms of addressing the best use of resources and geographical coverage where adoption of new agricultural technologies in cluster bases contributed to increase production of nutrition sensitive agricultural products by integrating focused activities with NRM such as supply of irrigation, WASH facilities, with the provision of nutrition sensitive agricultural production (fruit seedlings, potato, vegetable, cereals, and improved varieties of livestock). Multisectoral platform for stakeholder coordination contributed to achieve project output, outcome and objectives of the project as well.

 

Moreover women and their families got comprehensive assistance from the project, including irrigation water/rope- washer, improved crop and vegetable seeds,

and livestock, along with financial facility (VESA) enabled them to grow and consume diversified and enough plant and animal sourced nutrition’s food, which

contributed to reduce malnutrition problem in the project areas.

            

“KYEEMA foundation is an Australian INGO  is intended to implement a project entitled as ‘Upscaling Newcastle disease vaccination service for the village poultry sector in selected rural areas in Amhara, Tigray Sidama and SNNP Ethiopia’ in partnership with CARE and SNV (20-21), as part of the USAID Feed the Future Livelihoods for Resilience Activity. BAGER commissioned by KYEEMA to undertake a baseline study for the project in six woredas of Amhara, Sidama and SNNPR region including Wadla, Gubalafto and Menz Gera from Amhara, and Aleta Wondeo from Sidama, and Dilla Zuria and Anlemo Woreda from SNNPR, with the aim to acquire baseline data to be used as a benchmark for measuring impact and tracking the community’s progress towards programmatic outcomes detailed in the log frame.   

SINCE Lot 3 project implemented over the 3 years (2017 to 2020) in the specific targeted woredas of Tiyo, Shirka, Adaba and Sinanan in Aris, West and Bale Zones of Ormia regional state. The project was funded by European Trust Fund for Africa and managed by the Embassy of Italy, sided by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), with the technical assistance of UNIDO. A Consortium of three NGOs -COOPI, Educan and LVIA were institutionally responsible for project implementation taking into account their excellency in distinct interventions designed for implementation. BAGER conducted a terminal evaluation for the project against of the key OECD evaluation criteria’s: Relevancy, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Impact and Sustainability.

On behalf of the consortium, the Islamic Relief commissioned BAGER Safe Environment For Health Services PLC to undertake the activities and meet objectives listed below:  Provided a detail technical assessment on the water related infrastructure (Traditional water point, rood harvesting, irrigation scheme on the river bank side) which were denuded by heavy flooding occurred in the project operational areas;  Collected and synchronized the perceptions of different stakeholders (community; government offices at local level, NGO's working in the area) on the Climate Related Risk and the associate measures to Climate resilience and adaption to the changing environment;  Proposed technical feasible solutions, along with appropriate engineering design to mitigate and adapt the likely flooding impact to be occurred in the future;  Proposed stakeholders’ engagement on creating a joint effort towards to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of similar water related infrastructure in such a way to adapt to the changing climate factors; and substantiated by financial and technical requirements for further development. These would create an awareness on the part of the executing bodies to incorporate and design an adaptation project so as to mitigate climate caused impacts upon  community's livelihoods, and wastage of investment; Proposed the process of institutionalizing of climate assessment, flooding monitoring and evaluation, and Risk  Management System and the execution of the proposed technical solutions in the changing environment; The consultancy assignment began on September 2010 and was successfully completed on mid of December 2010. We commissioned the “BAGER Safe Environment for Health Services PLC” to undertake a consultancy services of a Baseline Assessment on the technical and social acceptability of introducing Fuel Saving Stove (FSS) in the project targeted WoredasFiltuWoreda-Somali Regional State, and LibenWoreda — Oromiya Regional State. The firm thus assessed and brought results, more specifically related to:  The advantage and disadvantage of the different types of stoves, both improved and traditional being used by the communities;  Recommendation on the type of fuel saving stoves being preferred technical and socially by the project targeted communities for further production and dissemination;  Recommended the stove production unit to be established as stove producing cooperatives in the two Woredas;and  Estimate the resource requirements for the production of the 6,000 stove planned by the project.
